The Anti-Bullying Alliance, based at NCB, today welcomes the
Lamb Inquiry's recommendation that schools improve their approaches
to dealing with bullying of children with special education needs
(SEN) and disabilities.
It is clear from both research and evidence on
the ground that children and young people with SEN and disabilities
are particularly vulnerable to bullying. The
Lamb Inquiry and the
positive response of the Secretary of State provide an
opportunity to find out what works best and how schools can be
supported to tackle this crucial issue.
Sue Steel, national manager of ABA, said: ‘We
are particularly pleased that the Secretary of State recognises the
continuing importance of this work in his response to the Inquiry
and that he has committed his department to acting on its findings
by working with the Anti-Bullying Alliance and other key
organisations. Together we can identify and promote effective
practice, building on the principles set out in the
Safe to Learn guidance.’
